Secretary of State Adrian Fontes releases publicly available three-part educational video series for high school students and future young voters
PHOENIX – Today, the Arizona Secretary of State's Office released a three-part video series to help educate high school students about American democracy, Arizona's election processes, ways to get involved, and the importance of being civically active. This project is a small part of the State Department's effort to encourage young Arizonans to register to vote as soon as they are eligible to do so. To find official election information, Arizonans are directed to visit Arizona.vote to register to vote by October 5th and make a plan to vote this election season.
According to The Civics Center, 98,000 people in Arizona turn 18 every year, but only 28% of them are registered to vote. This means that there are 71,000 18-year-olds who could participate in elections if they were registered. In the three-part series Secretary Fontes talks about the importance of Democracy, how voting is the public's way of influencing how our government operates, and reminds current 17-year-olds that they can register to vote as long as they will be 18 on or before election day on November 3, 2026.
"Democracy is made stronger when every eligible voter is given the necessary information needed to participate," said Secretary of State Adrian Fontes. "Young people will inherit the economy, the government, and the future we are building now. Their voices need to be heard, and I am proud of the work my office is doing to help explain the election process to new voters. I really hope these videos can be an easy-to-use resource for Arizona's teachers to help answer election-related questions this fall."
The video series can be found on the Arizona Secretary of State's YouTube channel.
