DEADLINE DAY: Voters in Arizona’s Congressional District 7 Urged to Act Now on Mail Ballots Ahead of Sept. 23 Special Election
PHOENIX – With the clock ticking down to the September 23 Special General Election in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District, Secretary of State Adrian Fontes is urging eligible voters to act quickly — especially those voting by mail.
Today, September 12 is the last day to request a mail-in ballot, and officials are encouraging voters to mail back completed ballots 7-10 days from the election to ensure they are received in time to be counted.
“This is a critical election for Congressional District 7, and we want every eligible voter to have their voice heard,” said Secretary Fontes in a statement Friday. “Whether you're voting by mail, in person, or using one of our voter tools — make a plan and make it count.”
The Special General Election was called to fill the U.S. House seat left vacant by the passing of longtime Congressman Raúl Grijalva. CD-7 includes parts of Cochise, Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, and Yuma counties. Only voters residing in the district are eligible to participate.
Mail Ballot Guidelines and Deadlines
Fontes' office recommends that voters mail their ballots at least 7 to 10 days before Election Day. All ballots must be received by 7 PM on Election Day when the polls close, Tuesday, September 23 — postmarks do not count.
If voters miss the mailing window, they can still drop off their ballot at any voting location or official drop box in their county.
Tools to Help Voters: TrackMyBallot and Text2Cure
To help voters monitor the status of their mail-in ballots, the state offers TrackMyBallot, a secure tracking system that sends text, email, or phone updates as the ballot is mailed, received, and counted.
“TrackMyBallot gives voters peace of mind,” Fontes said. “It’s easy, fast, and secure.”
Another tool, Text2Cure, allows voters to correct issues with their ballots — such as a missing or mismatched signature — through a secure link sent via text by their county elections office. Voters will be able to confirm their identity and resolve the issue quickly, ensuring their vote still counts.
