Sec. of State Brewer Releases Latest Statewide Voter Registration Figures
NEW FIGURES HAVE A DIRECT AFFECT ON UPCOMING 2008 PRIMARY AND GENERAL ELECTION
PHOENIX -- Arizona Secretary of State Jan Brewer has released
the voter registration figures for the State of Arizona as of March 1, 2008.
The statewide voter registration total has decreased to 2,694,974, down 18,096
since the Presidential Preference Election (PPE) voter registration cutoff.
Secretary of State Jan Brewer stated, “The decrease in the voter registration
totals really reflect continuing voter roll clean up efforts by the County
Recorders. I am pleased to see the continuing efforts of all the County Recorders
in ensuring that our voter registration data is up to date and complete.”
There are 1,036,774 registered Republicans, a decrease of 5,520, since the
PPE voter registration figures. Registered Democrats total 915,988, an increase
of 11,247 since the PPE cutoff. Registered Libertarians total 16,933, a decrease
of 771 registered voters.
Those registered as independents or as members of unrecognized parties are
grouped together in the “Other” category on the voter registration
figures. The latest total of voters in that group is 725,279, a decrease of
23,052.
Signature requirements for Statewide, Congressional and Legislative Nominating
Petitions are based on these March 1 voter registration statistics. The signature
