Secretary of State Ken Bennett Determines Political Party Recognition for the 2010 Election Cycle
PHOENIX – Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett
has released voter registration figures for the State of Arizona
as of November 1, 2009. The November 1 statistics were compiled
pursuant to A.R.S. § 16-804 and were used to determine which political
parties remain officially recognized in the State of Arizona for
the 2010 election cycle.
In order to maintain representation, on November 1 of the year
preceding a general election, each political party must have registered
voters in the party equal to at least two-thirds of one percent
of the total registered voters in the state. Based on these numbers,
the Democratic, Libertarian and Republican parties are eligible
for continued representation for the 2010 elections.
A copy of the voter registration statistics, including the threshold
for continued party representation, is included with this press
release. Copies are also available on the Secretary of State’s Web
site at www.azsos.gov or by calling the office at 602-542-8683 or
toll-free at 1-877-843-8683.
