Secretary of State Ken Bennett will formally dedicate the nearly completed WWII Memorial at a major event on December 7, 2013, at 9:45 a.m. There ceremony itself should last less than two hours.
The purpose of Wednesday’s brief logistics meeting is to provide the media with details and site layout of the dedication ceremony and an overview of the events surrounding the dedication itself.
Additionally, information regarding traffic closures and available parking areas will be discussed.
It is expected that thousands of people will attend the dedication, with an AZDPS escorted motorcycle ride (similar to the Centennial Ride) and city of Phoenix sponsored Pearl Harbor Day Walk terminating at Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza. A large contingent of WWII veterans, including Pearl Harbor survivors will be in attendance at the ceremony. A B-17 flyover, wreath laying ceremony, remarks by Secretary Bennett, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, State Historian Marshall Trimble and Rear Admiral Scott Sanders will underscore the historic day for Arizona.
