History at Your Fingertips
New exhibit debuts at the Arizona Capitol Museum
PHOENIX - We are pleased to announce the addition of the new Arizona Digital Newspaper Program’s (ADNP) “History at Your Fingertips” interactive exhibit at the Arizona Capitol Museum. The exhibit will be on display starting April 26, 2014.
“History at Your Fingertips” is a new interactive exhibit that is displayed in the Territorial Governor’s Room in the Arizona Capitol Museum. It is designed to resemble an old-fashioned newspaper stand, with wood graphics, newspaper titles and a timeline that features some of the governors from Arizona’s pre-statehood period. The interactive portion of the exhibit consists of a touch screen which allows visitors to either play a Territorial Governor’s Trivia Game or participate in a simulation on using the ADNP’s website. Both options feature Arizona’s first State Governor, George W.P. Hunt, as a “virtual” guide.
The ADNP “History at Your Fingertips” exhibit will allow users to get familiar with some of the figures who laid the groundwork for statehood as well as with searching through the hundreds of thousands of digitized pages of historic Arizona newspapers published between 1859 and 1922. With this exhibit, the ADNP intends to encourage and engage visitors with just a taste of the historically significant and highly informational resources available in its digital collections.
The ADNP’s exhibit will open in conjunction with the Arizona Capitol Museum’s new Rough Riders exhibit on April 26, 2014, and will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. that day. ADNP staff will be available to discuss the exhibit from 10 a.m. until noon, opening day.
The ADNP has been hard at work since 2008 and is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Library of Congress, the Arizona Secretary of State’s office and the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records.
