PHOENIX – The Secretary of State’s Office has updated procedures to create an additional option for Candidate Nomination Filings. While aspiring candidates can still mail in their nomination filing, the Secretary of State’s Office has also established a drop box for candidates who wish to bring their filing to our building.
The decision to limit in-person filings was made after careful consideration based on guidance from federal and state health officials. Given the current public health concern, the office is limiting visitors and requiring staff to telework as much as possible.
Aspiring candidates who wish to appear on the Primary or General Election ballot in federal, statewide, and legislative races must now either mail their filing or drop it off in the designated drop box. The drop box is located at the security station in the first floor lobby of the Executive Tower at 1700 W. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ 85007 and will be available so long as the Executive Tower is open.
All filings must be received by April 6, 2020. In addition to mailing in or dropping off their nomination petitions, candidates should also confirm that they have electronically filed their nomination paper, and for statewide and legislative offices, their financial disclosure statement. Candidates participating in the Clean Elections program may also mail in or drop off the paperwork required to receive public funding. Instructions to file by mail or by drop off are available on our website: https://azsos.gov/elections/candidate-filing.
All candidates registered in the Secretary of State’s Candidate Portal have received an email with information about this update. Each candidate will be able to schedule a one-on-one phone appointment with an Elections Division team member to review the process before the candidate mails or drops off their filing. To ensure candidates have as much clarity as possible on these updated procedures, our office will host a webinar to review the updates to the filing process. Candidates and campaigns should direct their questions to [email protected], which will continue to be monitored regularly.
