Secretary of State's Office Announces Opening of Ballot Measure Argument Submission Portal

PHOENIX – The Arizona Secretary of State’s Office is pleased to announce the opening of the submission portal for ballot measure arguments for the upcoming election cycle. Starting May 20, 2024 at 12:00 pm (noon) and closing on June 20, 2024 at 11:59 pm, the portal will be open for Arizona voters to submit their arguments either in support of or opposition to ballot measures that may appear on the ballot.
 
"My office encourages all interested parties to carefully consider the merits of each measure and to submit their arguments within the submission period," stated Secretary Fontes. "This is a vital part of our democratic process, and I look forward to seeing a robust exchange of ideas in the Publicity Pamphlet."
 
Ballot Argument Key Details:

  • Portal Opens: May 20, 2024, at 12:00 pm
  • Portal Closes: June 20, 2024, at 11:59 pm

  • Cost: $75 per argument submitted
  • Word Limit: Arguments must not exceed 300 words

Arguments submitted through the portal must be carefully crafted as they will be printed exactly as entered in the Publicity Pamphlet. Submitters are urged to review their arguments for spelling, capitalization, and grammar before submitting. It is important to note that the Secretary of State's Office will only include an argument in the Publicity Pamphlet if the measure qualifies to appear on the ballot. There will be no refunds for arguments submitted for measures that do not qualify.
