The Arizona Summer Reading Program Encourages Families to Visit Their Neighborhood Library and Read
PHOENIX – The Arizona Summer Reading Program encourages readers of all ages to visit their neighborhood library to participate in the Adventure Begins at Your Library program.
The Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records is partnering with 235 public libraries and neighborhood branches statewide to launch the program. The start date may vary from library to library, but generally runs from June 1 through August 1.
Summer library programs for all ages enhance lifelong learning and provide meaningful experiences available to everyone in the community. Adults can develop their hobbies or plan an adventure. Teens who participate benefit from engaging activities to explore personal interests, opportunities to volunteer or spend time with friends. Active library events and storytimes can meet the developmental needs of both beginning and pre-readers.
The Arizona Summer Reading Program encourages readers of all ages to read 20 minutes a day and libraries offer events like community scavenger hunts, adventurous escape rooms, book clubs, art adventures, and more.
"The Summer Reading Program in Arizona public libraries offer fun activities for children and adults alike," according to Secretary of state Adrian Fontes. "Sign up online or use a paper gameboard to track the minutes read throughout the summer."
“The Arizona Summer Reading Program is one of the state’s major annual community literacy efforts,” said State Librarian Holly Henley. “Reading for at least 20 minutes a day throughout the summer helps build a lifelong reading habit and is fundamental for developing and maintaining literacy skills!”
Participating in your library’s summer programs is free. Call your local library or visit their website to start exploring the summer reading program today!
