Secretary Fontes Responds to Arizona Supreme Court Administrative Order to Expedite Presidential Election Disputes
PHOENIX – In a decisive administrative order, the Arizona Supreme Court has mandated that any appeals regarding presidential elector judgments must now be filed no later than 1 PM on December 6, 2024. This directive prioritizes timeliness where presidential electors are involved, given the proximity to the state General Election canvass scheduled for November 25, 2024.
“This administrative order is a proactive step to ensure that our elections process remains unimpeded by unnecessary delays,” said Secretary of State Adrian Fontes. “The Supreme Court has effectively set a precedent that escalates resolution of cases involving our presidential electors.”
The Supreme Court’s order emphasizes that lower courts must resolve any elector issues promptly to prevent any delays in the Presidential election. The Secretary of State has engaged in education campaigns aimed at enhancing the courts' understanding and handling of elector-related disputes judiciously.
By setting a firm deadline for appeals, the Supreme Court has made certain that all electoral disputes are resolved ahead of Electoral College deadlines, maintaining Arizona’s commitment to safe, fair, and secure elections.
