PHOENIX – Under Arizona law (A.R.S. § 16-222), if a vacancy occurs in Arizona's representation within the U.S. House of Representatives, the Governor must announce dates for a special primary and special general election within 72 hours of the vacancy. Election dates follow statutory timelines designed to run smooth and secure elections.

Today, Governor Hobbs announced the following dates: the special primary election will occur on July 15, and the special general election will follow on September 23. The Arizona Secretary of State's Office will open the candidate portal and E-Qual system on March 17 at 9:00 AM, allowing prospective candidates in Congressional District 7 to initiate their qualification process by submitting a Statement of Interest. This applies to candidates in Cochise, Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, and Yuma counties.
