Election Director Lisa Marra Appointed to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s Board of Advisors
PHOENIX – Secretary of State Adrian Fontes announced the appointment of Arizona State Election Director Lisa Marra to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s (EAC) Board of Advisors. Marra’s selection, made through the National Governors Association by Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Colorado Governor Jared Polis, places one of Arizona’s most experienced election administrators on a prominent federal advisory body guiding national election policy.
“It’s an honor to serve on the EAC Board of Advisors at a pivotal moment for our democracy,” said Lisa Marra. “As the stakes grow, it’s essential that local election officials have a voice in shaping systems that are accurate, reliable, and cost-effective for voters across the country.”
This week, Marra participated in the 2025 EAC Board of Advisors Annual Meeting, where she cast a proxy vote in the selection of the Executive Board members. The EAC’s Board of Advisors is a 35-member board composed of representatives from various stakeholder associations, federal agencies, and Congress. It plays a key role in reviewing the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) and best practices under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA).
Members of the Board of Advisors review drafts of the VVSG, technical standards for voting systems, and provide feedback to the EAC before adoption. Their work is instrumental in ensuring voting systems meet the evolving needs of voters, election officials, and democratic institutions.
The Board of Advisors is one of three federal advisory bodies mandated by HAVA. Alongside the Standards Board and the Technical Guidelines Development Committee (TGDC), the Board of Advisors supports the EAC’s mission to improve election administration across the United States. In addition to these three, the EAC in 2021 created the Local Leadership Council to amplify the role of election officials from every state.
