The Arizona Secretary of State's office is charged with a number of important state functions, including serving as acting governor when the governor is absent from the state. Like lieutenant governors in other states, the Secretary of State is first in line to succeed the governor in the event of death, resignation or removal from office.

The Secretary of State's Office is responsible for several different services within state government; some of our most important influence the quality of life for Arizona's citizens. One of these services is the Address Confidentiality Program which allows victims of domestic violence, sexual offenses or stalking to keep their residential addresses confidential by giving them a substitute address. Another, is the Advance Directives program which allows people to electronically store a copy of their health care wishes so it will be available where and when it is needed.
