Candidates should review the Candidate Checklist prior to their appointment to ensure a smooth filing process.
Important Information
- You must be inside the building before security locks the doors on March 23rd at 5:00 PM or you will miss the filing deadline. No exceptions can be made A.R.S. § 16-311.
- Candidates in the building by 5:00 P.M. on March 23rd will be processed in the order of their appointment. Candidates without an appointment will be processed in the order of arrival between scheduled appointments.
- Appointments are not required but are highly recommended for your convenience. Please be prepared to wait if you choose to walk-in.
- Staff will remain until all candidates present have completed intake and receive a preliminary receipt.
- Official filing receipts for candidates filing on March 23rd will be emailed within 24 hours.
- Intake typically takes 30 minutes if your paperwork is complete.

For candidates seeking to run for the nomination of a recognized political party for U.S. Senator, the minimum number of signatures required is found by calculating 1/4 of 1% of the total qualified signers in the state as of January 2, 2026. The maximum number of signatures required is found by calculating 10% of the total qualified signers in the state as of January 2, 2026. Signature requirements for U.S. Senate candidates are the same as for Statewide candidates. (A.R.S. § 16-322).
For candidates seeking to run for the nomination of a recognized political party for Congress, the minimum number of signatures required is found by calculating 1/2 of 1% of the total qualified signers in the district as of January 2, 2026. The maximum number of signatures required is found by calculating 10% of the total qualified signers in the district as of January 2, 2026. Signature requirements for U.S. Senate candidates are the same as for Statewide candidates. (A.R.S. § 16-322).
For candidates seeking to run without a recognized political party designation, the minimum number of signatures required is found by calculating 3% of the total registered voters within the state, county, subdivision, or district who are not members of a political party that is qualified for representation as of January 2, 2026. Running for Local Office
Candidates seeking election for county or municipal office will file nomination petitions with the appropriate county or municipality. It is the candidate's responsibility to verify the correct form utilized in the jurisdiction in which they are seeking nomination.
All questions about running for local office, including precinct committeemen, should be directed towards the appropriate county, city or town elections office.
Running as a Write-In Candidate
Candidates running as a write-in candidate do not need to file nomination petitions. However, they must submit the correct write-in nomination paper and a financial disclosure statement (if applicable) via the Candidate Portal.
For write-in candidates who want to run in the Primary Election, the first day to file these forms with the Secretary of State's Office is February 21, 2026 and the deadline is May 22, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
For write-in candidates who choose to forgo participating in the Primary Election and want to be an official write-in candidate at the General Election only, the first day to file these forms with the Secretary of State's Office is June 6, 2026 and the deadline is September 4, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
