A Statement on the passing of Lattie F. Coor

PHOENIX – Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, proud Arizona State Alumni, released the following statement:

“I was saddened to hear of the passing of former Arizona State University President Lattie F. Coor.

He became ASU's president while I was an undergraduate, and I always appreciated his warmth and genuine kindness. His smile put students at ease in what could feel like a very big new place, and he had a remarkable way of listening with care while encouraging students in their academic pursuits and beyond.

During his tenure, ASU earned Research 1 status, firmly embraced its multi-campus future, and secured hundreds of millions of dollars through a transformational philanthropic campaign that strengthened the university for generations of students.

He was a true Arizona leader, and I'm proud that his signature is on my bachelor's degree from Arizona State University. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and the entire ASU community. Rest in peace.”
